The experience combines city exploration, traditional markets, royal drumming, forest landscapes, tea plantations, waterfalls, cultural traditions and some of Burundi’s most remarkable natural attractions.
Day 1: Arrival and Bujumbura City Experience
Your private guide and driver will welcome you at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport or collect you from your hotel in Bujumbura.
Begin with a guided tour of Burundi’s largest city, visiting selected local markets, important monuments, historical landmarks and lively neighbourhoods.
Your guide will introduce you to Burundi’s history, culture and everyday life while allowing time for photographs and local interactions.
After the city tour, transfer to your hotel for check-in, dinner and relaxation.

Day 2: Teza Tea Plantation, Kibira National Park and Gitega
After breakfast, leave Bujumbura and travel into Burundi’s beautiful highlands.
Visit Teza Tea Plantation, where green tea fields cover the surrounding hills. Learn about tea cultivation, meet local workers where possible and enjoy panoramic views of the plantation.
Continue to Kibira National Park for a guided forest experience. Explore the natural surroundings and learn about the park’s vegetation, wildlife and importance to Burundi.
A barbecue lunch will be prepared in an appropriate location near the forest.
You will also visit the traditional Ikigabiro tree, where your guide will explain its cultural importance. Guests may respectfully ask for blessings while following local customs and guidance.
After the visit, continue to Gitega.

Day 3: Gishora Royal Drums and Gitega Cultural Experience
After breakfast, visit the famous Gishora Drum Sanctuary.
Meet the traditional drummers and enjoy a powerful cultural performance featuring Burundi’s royal drums, dancing, songs and demonstrations.
Learn about the importance of drums in Burundi’s royal history and cultural identity. There will also be time to meet the performers and take photographs.
After the performance, enjoy lunch and spend the remainder of the day exploring Gitega and relaxing at the hotel.

Day 4: Karera Waterfalls and the Source of the Nile
After breakfast, depart Gitega and travel towards southern Burundi.
Visit the spectacular Karera Waterfalls, surrounded by green vegetation and beautiful natural landscapes. Walk through the area, enjoy the waterfalls and take photographs from selected viewpoints.
Continue to Rutovu to visit the southernmost Source of the Nile. Learn about the historical and geographical significance of the site before continuing to Mwishanga.
Check in at your lodge and enjoy a peaceful evening in the countryside.

Day 5: Nyakazu Fault, Lake Rwihinda and Return to Bujumbura
After breakfast, visit Nyakazu Fault, one of Burundi’s most impressive geological landscapes.
Enjoy views across the dramatic valley and learn about the natural formation and history of the area.
Continue to Lake Rwihinda, also known as the Bird Lake. Explore the peaceful lakeside environment and observe some of the birdlife that inhabits the surrounding wetlands.
After lunch, begin the return journey to Bujumbura.
The tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel or Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, depending on your travel arrangements.
