Burundi roots. East Africa journeys.

Explore East Africa with M Travel

Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania: choose a country in depth or bring several destinations together in one thoughtfully planned journey.

A region with room for different kinds of travel

East Africa offers many ways to build a holiday. You can spend time with cultural traditions in Burundi, explore forest and wildlife experiences in Rwanda or Uganda, follow a safari route in Kenya or Tanzania, and finish with days beside the Indian Ocean. The strongest itinerary is the one that connects your own priorities with enough time to enjoy them.

M Travel and Tours Burundi sells private and tailor-made journeys across the region from our base in Bujumbura. Burundi is our home, and our planning extends beyond it. We can help you consider a single destination, a combination of neighbouring countries or a wider route with carefully planned connections.

You do not need to visit every country in one trip. Tell us which experiences are essential and which are optional. From there, we can discuss a route with a comfortable balance of travel, activities and rest.

Burundi: culture, the lake and the highlands

Burundi rewards travellers who want to spend time with people and places beyond a conventional safari itinerary. Bujumbura offers a base for city visits and Lake Tanganyika excursions, while journeys inland can bring Gitega, Gishora’s drumming traditions, tea-growing landscapes and waterfalls into the programme.

Ask us about a short Burundi visit, a full-country route or a Burundi extension within a regional holiday. We can shape the days around cultural interests, photography, birdwatching, hiking or time on the lake. The particular visits, access arrangements and physical demands are confirmed in the itinerary.

A thoughtful programme also gives the day a sensible rhythm. We consider the timing of boat activities, overland travel, meals and overnight stops together. If you are connecting from another country, share the arrival details early so that the first and last days are planned realistically.

Rwanda: forest experiences and a varied landscape

Rwanda can suit a focused visit or a journey combining several kinds of experience. Volcanoes National Park is associated with mountain gorillas, while Akagera offers a different wildlife setting. Kigali and other stops can add context and variety around the nature-based part of the trip.

When a particular activity is the main reason for travelling, we start with that priority. Gorilla trekking and other experiences with controlled access need the relevant availability and requirements checked before the surrounding programme is finalised. We then work through accommodation, transport and the pace of the remaining days.

Rwanda can be considered alongside Burundi or Uganda, with the connection planned for your dates. A regional itinerary needs more than a line drawn between destinations: the actual transport option, border or flight arrangements and overnight locations must fit together.

Uganda: forests, wildlife and time to explore

Uganda offers opportunities to combine forest experiences with a broader wildlife journey. Bwindi is known for mountain gorilla trekking, and Queen Elizabeth National Park can form part of a wildlife-focused route. Which places belong in your trip depends on your interests and how much time you want to spend travelling between them.

Tell us if trekking, birdwatching, photography or time in the parks is your main priority. We will discuss the activity requirements and the time needed around them. A trek should be considered in terms of its confirmed conditions and your individual needs, rather than treated as an interchangeable stop on a busy sightseeing day.

For a route that also includes Rwanda or Burundi, we review the destination order and the connections before confirming the overall programme. Longer stays can allow a more relaxed pace, while shorter visits benefit from a narrower focus.

Kenya: safari country and the coast

Kenya offers a wide choice of safari settings. The Maasai Mara and Amboseli are among the places travellers often ask us to include, and coastal destinations such as Diani can bring a different rhythm to the end of a trip. The combination should reflect the wildlife experience, accommodation style and amount of travel you prefer.

We discuss the number of nights in each area and how the programme moves between them. Some travellers want several days focused on one safari location; others prefer a broader route. Road and flight options are considered as part of the proposal, with their costs and included arrangements made clear.

A safari is an experience in a natural environment. Animal movements and sightings cannot be guaranteed, and a specific sighting should never be the sole promise behind a booking. We plan around the places, activities and time available, giving you a clear understanding of the proposed journey.

Tanzania and Zanzibar: safari, heritage and coastal time

Tanzania offers safari routes that can include the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire, alongside other choices depending on the trip. Zanzibar adds an island setting, with Stone Town’s heritage, coastal stays and experiences connected with the island’s spice traditions.

For a safari-and-island holiday, we plan the two parts together. The safari route needs time for transfers and game viewing, while the island stay should leave room for the way you want to spend your days. Hotel location, flight connections and the balance between excursions and free time all affect the experience.

Not every Tanzania itinerary needs the same sequence of parks or the same beach extension. Share the places that interest you, your preferred comfort level and any fixed travel dates. We can then develop a proposal that fits those priorities instead of adding destinations simply to make the programme longer.

How we connect countries into one journey

We begin with the experiences you most want and the time available. We then review the order of countries, the arrival and departure points, and the transport connections between them. Where a journey involves different local services, the proposal sets out the arrangements at each stage.

A combination such as Burundi and Rwanda may focus on culture, landscapes and a selected wildlife experience. A Rwanda-and-Uganda route may centre on forests and wildlife. Kenya and Tanzania can be considered for a broader safari journey, with a coastal stay added where it suits the route. These are directions for a planning conversation, with the actual itinerary and price agreed for your dates.

Before confirmation, we check the relevant services and discuss any travel documents or activity requirements that need attention. We do not assume that one entry permission, one vehicle or one booking condition applies throughout the region.

The practical choices that shape your quotation

Your budget is affected by the number of travellers, season, accommodation, transport, activities and any permits or flights included. The same country can support very different styles of trip. Let us know whether your priority is comfort, a particular experience, more nights in fewer places or keeping the overall cost within a defined range.

We also need to understand room arrangements, children’s ages, mobility needs and any fixed commitments. Where the plan includes trekking, early starts or long drives, we discuss those details while developing the itinerary. A clear quotation identifies what is included and what remains your own arrangement.

Start with your preferred countries, approximate dates and group size. Browse our published packages for ideas, then contact us to adapt an itinerary or create a regional journey around your own priorities.
