A journey beyond the capital
Burundi rewards travellers who leave room for conversation and look beyond a checklist of sights. Begin in Bujumbura, where the lakeshore, markets and monuments introduce different sides of the country. Continue towards Gitega for cultural visits, or ask us to build a route through the highlands and the landscapes farther south. A private itinerary can connect these places while leaving time for meals, photographs and the journey itself.
Lake mornings and city afternoons
A morning excursion on Lake Tanganyika can bring together views of the shoreline, birdlife and the work of local fishermen. M Travel’s boat experiences are planned around the conditions on the water. For our city and lake programme, the boat excursion comes first, followed by the city visits. Tell us where you are staying and whether you have an onward flight so that pickup and the end of the day fit your plans. Wildlife sightings remain a possibility, not a promise.
Gishora, Gitega and the countryside
A visit to Gishora centres on Burundi’s drumming heritage and the setting in which it is shared. It works well with time in Gitega, rather than a rushed return that leaves no space to understand the experience. Longer journeys may include Karera Waterfalls, Teza’s tea landscapes or a forest outing in the Kibira area. We identify the actual visits and guiding arrangements in your programme; not every place mentioned here is included in every package.
Choose a pace that suits you
A single day is useful for a focused city, lake or cultural experience. Several days allow you to leave Bujumbura and spend more time inland. If you want early starts, photography time, a gentler walking pace or a journey with children, tell us at the planning stage. Some boat boarding points and rural visits involve steps or uneven ground, so practical access needs should be discussed before choosing the route.
A clear proposal from one travel team
Tell us your preferred dates, number of travellers, starting point and approximate budget. Include any flights or hotels already arranged and let us know which parts you want M Travel to organise. The proposal will identify the transport, guiding, accommodation, meals and activities included, along with exclusions and payment conditions. Each service is included only when stated in the package or accepted quotation.
You can explore the published packages below or use the trip planner for a personal route. Where a published price applies, book online with your chosen date and group. For a different route or an unpriced group, request a proposal. WhatsApp is useful for a first conversation; email gives you space to share a detailed brief and keep the arrangements together.
