BURUNDI ROOTS. EAST AFRICA JOURNEYS.

East Africa destinations

Private journeys shaped by our local team in Burundi and Tanzania.

Start with the experience you want, then choose a route that gives it time. M Travel and Tours Burundi brings together local knowledge from our offices in Burundi and Tanzania with personal planning for journeys across East Africa.

Discover Burundi’s royal drum heritage and Lake Tanganyika, explore Rwanda and Uganda, or plan a safari in Kenya or Tanzania with time on the Indian Ocean coast. Travel as your own private party, with the pace, guiding and accommodation written into a clear itinerary. Our destination guides help you compare the character of each place before committing to a route.

Six ways to shape your East Africa journey

These are our main destination guides. Zanzibar is part of Tanzania and appears separately because an island stay needs its own arrival, transfer and accommodation planning.

Connect countries with a purpose

A multi-country journey works best when each destination adds something you value. Begin with two or three priorities, such as Burundi’s cultural heritage, a forest experience or several relaxed safari days. We can then assess the connections and suggest where an extra night improves the trip more than another stop.

CULTURE & LAKES

Burundi and Rwanda

Give Burundi’s drums, city life and lakeshore their own days, then consider how a Rwanda stage fits your interests. Choose the order around your arrival and departure flights. Any road crossing or flight connection must be checked for your travel dates before the route is confirmed.

FOREST & WILDLIFE

Uganda and Rwanda

Start with the forest or wildlife experiences that matter most to you. Permit arrangements, age requirements and the practical demands of the selected activities can influence the route. Share your party’s ages and walking comfort before reserving a particular experience.

SAFARI & SEA

Tanzania and Zanzibar

Plan the mainland journey first, then choose an island stay with enough time to relax. Keep the safari’s finishing point, onward flight or ferry, luggage arrangements and island transfer together in the plan. A beach extension should feel like a natural final chapter.

Kenya and Tanzania can also be discussed as a combined safari journey. The number of days, preferred areas and connection costs determine whether that combination suits you. We will explain the trade-offs before you agree to a complicated itinerary.

Build a journey that fits your time and budget

Choose your pace before counting attractions

Think about how you want the days to feel. Some travellers enjoy an early start and an active programme; others prefer shorter drives and longer stays. Tell us about children, older travellers and anyone who needs a lighter walking day. We can shape the proposal around those practical details instead of leaving them until arrival.

Make the price basis clear

Published packages state their currency, price basis, inclusions and group rates. Select your date and party size to calculate the current total. A tailored route is priced separately and should show accommodation, meals, transport, guiding, activities and any optional extras. Your budget is useful guidance for a proposal; it is not an amount you are being asked to pay.

Keep arrival and departure arrangements connected

Share your arrival airport, intended departure airport and any flights you have already booked. A transfer that looks short on a map may still need a generous margin. We can include airport pickup, a driver for a longer journey and the final transfer in one programme, with the exact services shown in your confirmation.

Check the requirements for the actual route

Entry rules, permits, border operations and activity conditions can change. They also depend on nationality, age and itinerary. Use the current guidance of the relevant authorities when arranging documents, and ask us to clarify the route before buying non-refundable connections. Membership of the same regional community does not mean every traveller has identical entry arrangements.

Looking beyond the main routes?

The homepage destination selector includes all eight East African Community countries: Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Somalia. Zanzibar is listed as a Tanzania destination. This lets you describe the journey you have in mind without forcing it into the wrong country.

For the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan or Somalia, send a tailored enquiry. We will discuss whether we can arrange the specific route and what current access, local arrangements and logistics require. A destination appearing in the selector is not a promise that every location or activity can be booked online. If no published package matches your choice, the website takes you to a trip request with that destination retained.
